Poster preparation hints
A few hints to start you off.

provided on the links page.
- It takes time to prepare a poster. Plan ahead and START
EARLY.
- A poster is a visual means of communication!
- Follow the instructions provided by the conference
organizers on dimensions.
- A poster is not a manuscript on a notice board. Do
not include an abstract.
- Less is better than more.
- Do not lose your "take home message" in too
much text or background.
- This is a scientific rather than an artistic exercise.
Keep the background simple and optimise the use of empty space.
- Remember the poster should be able to be viewed in
your absence, so it should be self-explanatory.
- Do not include details of "Materials and Methods".
These can be communicated orally or sent by e-mail to interested parties.
- Include graphics that increase the communication effectiveness
of the poster. "A picture is worth 1000 words". However, do not
overwhelm the audience with complicated graphs and tables.
- A good formula for the layout is: 20% text: 40% graphics:
40% empty space. Use column format.
- Attract the attention of your audience by using large
font size for your title. Your audience should be able to read the poster
at a distance of 1.8 metres or 6 feet!
- Use short sentences and bullets in your text.
- A 1 page summary handout is useful
Good Luck!!
